Why Fool’s Gold: Confessions From an Educated Fool?

In this Substack I will focus on two themes. One, how do we as a world get free from Western civilization and its inevitable destruction of us all (it's okay to say "I don't know" by the way)? Two, how is it that I am the biggest fool alive, PhD or not?

That’s what I wrote two years ago. Despite some minor success in building a following and in writing one Substack after another that has reached a wider audience, I cannot keep Confessions From an Educated Fool at just two themes. The mainstream news media has folded like a three-legged card table built circa 1972. In the past 15 months, outlets once mildly interested in center-left or even radical perspectives on the world that is and the world that needs to be if any of us and our descendants are to have a viable future have said, “Naw, sir, we can only publish neoliberal or wacko far-right hot takes or puff pieces or superficial “reality” and celeb fluff.”

For someone who can turn even Dua Lipa’s bubblegum music into a short dissertation on imaginations of a poly-sexual future, that leaves me with my columnist work at Al Jazeera or with pitching the same six-to-12 news outlets with any freelance work. Hoping that, maybe one day, when all the planets align and all the quarks in my body spin at the same rate as those in a parallel universe, an elite editor will say, “You’ve made it, Black man! Welcome to our delusion and exclusive club.” Nope. Not for me. So instead, the third theme, the world that is, the small-p and large-P of the politics beyond work life and the future, will be a much bigger part of this Substack in 2025. With pictures, video, and maybe even charts, too! We’ll see!
